Full NCQA Accreditation Status Awarded

At the end of 2011, Cigna earned “Full” accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its behavioral care centers nationwide. The accreditation is valid for three years. Cigna is committed to excellence and to improving the health, well-being and security of the people we serve.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and recognizes physicians in key clinical areas. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care today. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information through the Web, media and data licensing agreements in order to help individuals, employers and others make more informed health care choices.

The NCQA accreditation applies to Cigna’s:

  • Behavioral health care benefit management
  • Credentialing and re-credentialing of the behavioral health care professionals and facilities in Cigna Behavioral Health, Inc.’s network
  • Monitoring of feedback from people receiving Cigna’s behavioral health benefits
  • Management of preventive health programs
