The right help at the right time!PREVENTIVE HEALTH PROGRAM RESULTSCigna offers behavioral programs that promote health. These programs are based on scientific evidence and may help to detect, prevent, or control the worsening of an illness. 2010 results are given for two current programs. Our Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder program received continued high customer ratings, with consistent improvement in understanding, in the use of multiple treatment modalities, and experienced satisfaction with treatment outcomes over a three year period. Results for our new early intervention program for Depression show that medication refill rates remain stable, while slightly more individuals adhere to medication regimens, and prompts concerning patient adherence were needed for fewer unique prescribers. POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER - PART TWOAs mentioned in the Third Quarter Practitioner Newsletter article on assessment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), PTSD can be very debilitating and is seen in about 25-30% of individuals experiencing a traumatic event. PTSD can be seen in any age, including children. Once a diagnosis is made there are 2 primary treatments, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. Luckily, in the last few years there has been an increased focus on screening, diagnosing and treating PTSD as well as looking at the effectiveness of various types of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. In this article we will briefly discuss treatment options.
