The right help at the right time!REVIEW THE 2008 DRAFT OF CIGNA'S BEHAVIORAL LEVEL OF CARE GUIDELINESCIGNA formally adopts behavioral Level of Care Guidelines based on appropriate medical evidence, evidence-based practice, and consistency with the Clinical Practice Guidelines published by credible professional societies, such as the American Psychiatric Association, for condition-specific management of illness.
Specific and explicit criteria outlined in the Level of Care Guidelines provide guidance in utilization management decision-making, and are applied based on case-by-case need and with consideration of the availability of services in local delivery systems. Annually, the consistency with which clinical staff and physician reviewers apply the Level of Care Guidelines is measured and training and/or other improvement actions are taken as needed to assure consistency of application. Existing practitioners are notified of CIGNA's behavioral website resources in an annual mailing, while new practitioners receive notification as part of contracting materials. Updates to CIGNA's behavioral Level of Care Guidelines reflect recent changes in the research and literature, or in professional practice standards. The revised draft for the 2008 guidelines is now available on CIGNA's behavioral Web site and can be freely downloaded to access the full text at this link: Guidelines. Additionally, the Web page includes a feedback mechanism for submission of practitioner input and feedback concerning the guidelines. Your thoughts and recommendations are always welcomed.
