The right help at the right time!

Health Information Rated Positively by CBH Participants

As a part of Care Advocacy, CIGNA Behavioral Health (CBH) often sends health education information by mail and e-mail to interested participants. Additionally, participants can access health information though our website. Health information can be on topics such as depression, divorce, or dealing with problem children. To determine how helpful this information is to our participants, CBH surveyed participants regarding:

  • Participant’s access to the internet

  • Participant’s satisfaction with the web interface with CBH

  • Participant’s understanding of the health information

  • Participant’s rating of the helpfulness of the information.

Results

A random sample of 659 participants was selected for survey, out of 131,704 participants who accessed behavioral health service. Responses were received from 100% of those surveyed. 585 respondents (88.8%) of the sample indicated that they have access to the internet. Of the 585 respondents who indicated they have access to the internet, 113 (19.3%) indicated that they looked at health education resources at CBH’s website in the past 12 months and:

  • 76.1% indicated it was not a problem to find this information,

  • 85.8% indicated it was not a problem to understand this information, and

  • 87.6% rated the helpfulness of this information as “Good”, “Very Good”, or “Excellent.”

Of the 659 participants who responded to the survey, 204 (31.0%) indicated they have received health education resources from CBH through e-mail or mail. Of the 204 respondents who indicated they had received health education resources from CBH through e-mail or mail in the past 12 months:

  • 89.2% indicated it was not a problem to understand the information

  • 85.3% rated the helpfulness of this information as “Good”, “Very Good”, or “Excellent.”

At a time when CBH, and the health care industry in general, is moving to supporting consumer health care decision-making with education materials, it is critical to assure that information provided to consumers is both useful and understandable.
