The right help at the right time!Work/Life Resources: Enhancing The EAP Participant ExperienceThe Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers participants an opportunity to review many different life issues. As an EAP practitioner, you meet with participants, conduct thorough assessments and collaboratively develop action plans with each participant. Sometimes overlooked in the planning process is the multitude of participant resources available through the EAP Work/Life benefit. Use of these resources can support your plan and contribute to positive outcomes for our participants. Most EAP participants have access to the resource examples listed below, while others may have an enriched benefit package. Encourage participants to call their EAP access number to verify which Work/Life benefits they have. These services can be accessed by the participant telephonically through their EAP number or online by the participant at www.CIGNABehavioral.com. The turnaround times for requested referrals and information are usually 12 hours for routine requests and 6 hours for emergency requests. Legal Services Is your client going through a divorce/separation? Have questions about an elderly family member’s rights? Need questions answered about a will? Buying a first house and stressed about real estate law? This service can help. A half hour consultation with a licensed attorney at no charge either telephonically or face-to-face is included, depending on the participant’s preference. Participants needing additional assistance beyond the initial consultation can choose a network attorney and enjoy reduced rates (typically a 25% discount depending on the services required). * Employment-related law is not covered under this benefit. Financial Information Got a client struggling to make ends meet? Is your client behind on payments? Collection agencies calling them at work? A call to the EAP can launch an effort to find resources and information that may assist the participant with most financial issues. Child Care Returning to work after having a baby? Transferred to an office away from your current childcare provider? Moving to a new town? If these or other life events are impacting your client, directing them to the EAP to assist in researching daycare centers, before- and after-school programs, babysitting agencies, and preschools may prove very useful. Senior Care Information and referral resources are available to your clients who may be the primary caretakers for senior parents or relatives. As the population ages, you may see more clients taking on this type of responsibility. Some may be part of the “sandwich generation,” having responsibilities for both seniors and children at home. Referrals typically focus on home health agencies, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, long-distance caregiving, back-up care, hospice care, adult daycare, transportation services, long term care insurance and respite care. Pet Care Having a pet in the family can be fulfilling. It also brings additional responsibilities into the home. Although a relatively new addition to the Work/Life features, Pet Care referrals are becoming more and more frequent. These referral and information searches focus on a broad range of topics including veterinarians, pet insurance, pet-sitting resources, groomers, pet boarding facilities, and emergency animal clinics.
