DIRECTING CIGNA EAP PARTICIPANTS TO ONLINE RESOURCES

Where can you direct a participant to a wealth of information, resources and assistance, at no cost, to meet a wide range of needs? CIGNA has an innovative interactive Web site with a broad range of resources and assistance available. These resources can be used to support your treatment objectives with the participant. CIGNA's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and many employer groups offer multiple online resources including stress management, lifestyle management, and wellness programs.

CIGNA’s online resources include participant and practitioner toolkits containing educational and treatment support tools in the CIGNA provider section of the website. Additionally, there are numerous resources for participants in the Members section of the website. This section's key features include an article library on a broad range of topics, resource links, audio recordings, monthly feature topics, webinars, self-assessment tools and personal improvement programs. Topics include parenting, adoption, child care, disabilities, balancing, relationships, grief and loss, stress, health, workplace and financial issues, and many more. CIGNA also offers preventive health programs through the website. These programs engage members in a virtual dialogue so they can discover the best way to make individualized changes. They are not “one-size-fits-all” solutions.

How do you refer a participant to the website?
It begins at http://www.cignabehavioral.com. In the Members section, click on the Login to access your benefits link. This brings up the For Members screen. To access online services, the participant types their employer ID into the field provided and hits Enter. The employer ID is typically their company name in lower-case letters with no spaces or punctuation (example: xyz corporation.)

Reminder: Obtain an EAP Authorization
It's important to remember that because, in most cases, EAP benefits are available to employees and members of their household without eligibility verification, all EAP members must obtain an authorization for EAP sessions prior to meeting with an EAP practitioner. Participants can pre-authorize by calling their EAP access number or by going to the CIGNA Behavioral Health (CBH) website (http://www.cignabehavioral.com) and logging on using their Employer ID and PIN. Participants are responsible for bringing their authorization number with them to their first appointment. If a participant does not have an authorization number at the time of his/her first EAP appointment, you, as a practitioner, can call CBH and obtain the authorization him/her. You will need the participant’s demographic information and the name of his/her employer. The participant can also log on to the CBH website from your location and obtain the authorization.
