Follow all the directions for your medications. Dont neglect your social life. Establish goals for a healthy lifestyle Keep phone numbers of your health care practitioners readily available Even with the right medicine and a comprehensive approach to treatment, a person might still encounter setbacks along the road. Medications can help manage the symptoms of your disorder but they do not cure the illness. Sometimes a medicine may work for a while and then become less effective. Because no one can predict how well a medication will work, you and your support system need to keep an eye on whether symptoms are returning. A relapse rarely happens suddenly. Typically you can detect certain changes in a persons behavior that indicate a period of severe symptoms is coming. If you learn to identify these warning signs, you may be able to intervene early and help keep the symptoms from escalating. Listed below are some common or universal warning signs that might signal a relapse. If you notice any change in behavior, you should point it out to your support system and discuss whether these changes might be early warning signs of relapse. Frequently people relapse because they stop taking their medicines as prescribed. If alerted soon enough, doctors might adjust medication to help you avert a more serious relapse. At any time, should you have a serious concern about your safety or are facing a crisis, please obtain immediate assistance. This worksheet was designed to help you identify areas of your life where you may need extra help. While you are the one taking the steps towards getting and staying well, all of us at some point may need to lean on our support systems for assistance.
